History
was made on May 14, 2007 when the
Eureka Springs City Council unanimously approved the
DOMESTIC PARTNER REGISTRY (DPR). This was not only a victory
for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) couples, but also for
unmarried straight couples. Although the document does not entitle
couples legal benefits as in a marriage, we feel it does act as a
wonderful validation and acknowledgement of their relationship and
commitment to each other. It is especially helpful for couples
working for companies that provide Domestic Partner Benefits. This is a
first for Arkansas and hopefully, will inspire other registries
throughout the state and beyond. We are proud that despite oppressive
and at times, hateful opposition, Eureka Springs has sent out a clear
message to encourage the evolution of equality for ALL couples!
By the way, couples must apply in person Monday through Friday! Sign the
Domestic Partner Benefit
application form at the
City Clerk's Office at City Hall, pay a $35 fee, be placed in the
registry, and receive your official DPR Certificate. It cost $20 to be
removed from the registry using
Application for Termination (and we like to encourage trying couple
counseling first! ;-)
PLEASE EMAIL YOUR FAVORITE DPR PICS! We’d love to post them and share
them with others!

*As is commonly known, most Eureka Springs locals and businesses are
diversity welcoming year round.
There are now four Diversity Weekends, Valentine’s, Spring, Summer and
Fall, and from time to time a
special Pride weekend will occur. So, to keep in the loop, we suggest
you join our mailing list,
periodically check back in with our website, Diversity Pride Events, as
well as others that are listed in the COMMUNITY PAGES section of our
website. |
